Hi everyone! My name is Jamal Jarral and I am a 4th-year student at Humber College. Today, I had the pleasure of attending Illuminate x Hirenn’s resiliency workshop. Here are my thoughts highlighting what I learned about branding and being resilient. Branding really funnels people toward you by showing that you are amazing at one thing and not sort of a jack of all trades. The seminar shows the difference between a corner store and Starbucks. Starbucks is considered much higher in regards to quality due to the fact that they specialize in coffee while the corner store is much more of a jack of all trades. Another thing that the workshop spoke about was being resilient. Life can be hard on each of us in various ways and everyone learns that one day or another. What I have learned with this workshop and through life experiences is the first step to being resilient when life does not give you a food hand is taking it one day at a time. That project is due in 4 weeks and can wait, work through today first and slowly each day that passes will be much easier. Another thing that I have
learned is the way the mind tricks itself into worse situations. Something that most people do not realize is throughout life you will experience multiple hiccups, and you may have already gotten past them. In the past, you got past them without no issues but you still may have stressed over them, just as you will stress in the future but when the time comes you will also get over them just as you did in the past. Both these thoughts will affect me moving forward, I will continue to be stressed its inevitable, and when that comes I will be ready for it. In terms of branding, I will know what to aim for. My original thought was to be a jack of all trades and master of none but that was incorrect, the right way to brand yourself is to be a master of one.
