The World of University Applications

Hi everyone! My name is Katelyn Ou and I am a Grade 11 student at Sentinel Secondary School. Today, I had the pleasure to attend Jodi Buckley’s Think Tank on “The World of University Admissions” as a part of the Associate National Lead program where I get to build and host my own conference! Here are my thoughts highlighting what I learned:

First and foremost, I learned that some universities require supplemental applications. Surprisingly, I have never heard of such a thing. Therefore, I was glad I knew about this before I had to apply for universities.

Secondly, I also learned how and what to prepare for when I apply for different universities next year. We had an opportunity to discuss with other peers on a few general interview questions which was quite fun. After just 30 minutes of discussion, I can confidently say I am more than ready to face any interviews.

One of the biggest takeaways I got from Jodi is a lot of useful information about McMaster University and what to do if I happen to apply one day. Other than that, she also gave us very useful tips while handling interviews in the future which I know will be extremely useful to me when I interview for universities or even jobs in the future.

Overall, I truly enjoyed the opportunity to learn a lot about applying to universities. I also enjoyed how we got the chance to discuss with another peer which gave me a chance to get to know someone who I have not met before.
