Hi everyone! My name is Henry and I am a 1st-year student at KPU. Today, I had the pleasure to attend Illuminate x Hirenn’s resiliency workshop. Here are some of my thoughts on what I learned while attending the workshop.

To begin, I had to first understand what is resiliency?
I learned that resiliency meant toughness; it was the ability to persevere through adversity and bounce back from difficult times. However, I didn't really what they meant to me personally.
Thankfully, Hiren explained that in order to develop strategies to build personal resilience, I had to be able to continuously evaluate my emotions. Moreover, he mentioned that some attributes of Personal Resilience could be found in relationships with Healthy coping/problem-solving skills, Self-Knowledge, Motivation, Optimism, and Strong Relationships. He also said that some strategies to build resilience were: Practicing mindfulness, Serial mono-tasking, Reframing thought, and self-compassion.
Thus, I understood that not only were personal strategies developed, but they were also identifiable so that they can ultimately create a positive mindset!
Hearing from Hiren, I realized that I already had a positive mindset, but I didn't realize the impact of negativity bias on my thinking patterns. So, I would definitely be taking his advice on how I approach my personal growth from now.
All in all, I really enjoyed the interactive presentation that Hiren had set up. Having questions, like buttons, and places to input our own thoughts onto his slides was something that was really creative and engaging. I think the biggest takeaway is that there are too many times when people in their busy lives don't stop and consider what is bothering them mentally, so having Hiren explain it scientifically with examples helps address an issue that isn't normally thought about.
