Hi everyone!
My name is Bernie Wang and I am currently a grade 11 attending Markville Secondary School. Today, I had the pleasure to attend the Illuminate National High School Leadership Conference with over 170 students globally. Here is are the key points which highlight what I learned about executive thinking.
- The definition of success
- Creating a positive and inclusive environment
- Distinguishing between a GOOD leaders and GREAT leaders
As a high school student, it is important to develop strong leadership skills which will indefinitely be beneficial later in life. These traits can include motivation, determination, effective time-management and organization. These were emphasized during the Brock University keynotes conference. In order to be successful in making these programs, these characteristics are important for getting the best out of your learning experience.
Workshop #1:
Through Alina's inspirational story we learned the true definition of success. It doesn't matter how dire your situation is, the success of an individual is defined through their willingness and desire to accomplish their own goals. Thank you Alina for sharing your story :)
Workshop #2:
Through the workshop with Concentra, we talked about potential role models and their greatness specifically. Their mindsets and activity in the community are what separates them from the competition. We can see this through leader and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, "Warren Buffett"
Summary:
Through the NHLC experience, I am extremely passionate about using these key concepts in the case competition set for next year. As well, I hope everybody reading this blog can learn and take inspiration from leaders and role models all over the world. Thank you Illuminate Universe! :)
