Last Stop For June: Illuminate Vancouver and New Features!

Updated: Nov 28, 2020

We’re days away from the much anticipated Illuminate Vancouver 2019 conference! This year has brought some notable changes, the biggest being the location change. Instead of the typical UBC venue, we’ll be at RED Academy (1490 W Broadway).

Technology is essential to our daily lives, and it’s only going to get bigger and more involved. RED Academy teaches its students valuable skills, such as digital marketing, design, and website/app building, that they need to thrive in a future where technology is everywhere. RED Academy is a laidback and modern building. It’s a startup company with a startup vibe.

Here is a special message from our newest partner RED Academy:

We're a technology & design school with an agency-style environment that focuses on real client projects in UX/UI design, web development & digital marketing. Tech needs more talent, more innovation, and more inclusivity. Yet despite the demand, traditional models of post-secondary education are not preparing students for an industry that’s constantly changing. So we decided to do something about it. RED is for people who want fulfilling, innovative, and important work. It’s for having creative freedom, for making connections, and for having a say in what happens next. It’s for designing your tomorrow. The best way to learn is by doing. That’s why we give you real clients, real projects, and real experts in the field to guide you along the way. We’re not your typical school. We’re your future. Come find out more about our school and see what some of our RED x UBC alumni created during our 12 or 24-week programs.

One of our senior interns, Anna Ma, has also added in the addition of free professional headshots. Illuminate NHBC is like the gateway that leads students into the business world by teaching attendees about case competitions, networking, and what it means to present themselves professionally in person. But, it's also important to present oneself professionally online as well, via media such as LinkedIn. To have a strong profile, it's always good to start with a professional headshot. So, at the end of the day, each attendee will get an opportunity to get a chance to have a professional headshot taken of them to use on their social media.

There will also be a cute dog, Buddy, wandering around the building so if you see him make sure to say hi and give him a good belly rub!
